Where to visit on a Car Museum Roadtrip

The Museum of Automobiles at Petit Jean Mountain

About two and a half hours away from Springdale is the Museum of Automobiles at Petit Jean Mountain in Morrilton, Arkansas! This collection of historic, antique, and unique vehicles spans a half-acre and houses special automobiles with pop culture, auto industry, and historical importance. Some of these date back to 1904 through 1981 and showcase a glimpse into the past. Most of these vintage vehicles still run, with many loaned out to the museum by their owners.

Exhibit Highlights

If you love music and history, you can see the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll’s vehicle in this collection! A Ford owned by Elvis is on-site, as well as a car that former U.S. President John F. Kennedy drove, and vehicles personally owned by former Arkansas Governor Winthrop Rockefeller, the original founder of the museum. The newest edition of this collection is a 1981 DeLorian, the car that became famous in 1985 with the release of Back to the Future.

The Climber

One of the most fascinating pieces in this museum is not apparent at first glance. It’s a vehicle from the Climber Motor Corporation, an auto manufacturer that opened in 1919 and shut down in 1924 and was located in none other than Little Rock, Arkansas. It was the only car manufacturer ever to open in The Natural State and made two cars and two trucks during its brief run.

History of the Museum

The Museum of Automobiles opened in 1964 at the helm of Rockefeller after he purchased a collection of 33 vehicles from a defunct museum in Florida. After Rockefeller passed in 1973, his cars were purchased by other collectors. However, the museum re-opened in 1976 thanks to a group of volunteers. The museum now has a collection of 50 cars and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The facility also has collections of:

• Antique gun displays

Beaver Lake Tailwater on the White River: Rogers, AR

After the completion of the dam in 1966, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers realized that the water released from the base was too cold to home the sunfish population and native smallmouth bass. They remedied this by introducing trout to restore the fishery. This location is now a hotspot for Arkansas Tourism, where guests can catch rainbow trout, brown trout, and even paddlefish.

Lake Leatherwood: Eureka Springs, AR

Spanning 85 acres with three miles of shoreline and fed by a spring, Lake Leatherwood is well known for being one of the biggest hand-cut limestone dams in the country. It’s surrounded by 15 miles of hiking and biking trails surround it, with available cabin lodging too. Anglers are welcome to cast either on the shore or in a boat, though there is a “no wake” rule for motorized boats. The fish species here include:

Arkansas Disc Golf Courses You Need to Play – J. Beast

Disc golf is rapidly becoming one of America’s favorite sports, and Arkansas is quickly becoming a hotspot thanks to its stunning natural landscapes. J. Beast is an 18-hole course located right here in Springdale, Arkansas at JB Hunt Park. The course was designed for all types of players. The holes include a great mix of open fairways, allowing you to really rip, and some technical wooded shots that help you master your tight shots and up shots. Also, the baskets are discatcher baskets and the tee-pads are concrete.

The first three holes on J. Beast are tight wooded shots, then you move to some pretty wild open yet protected basket shots. From there it goes back and forth. Out of bounds (OB) doesn’t come in to play much on J. Beast, but it can feel like you’ve taken an OB stroke when getting off the fairway on some of these holes. After you’ve made your way through the course and are heading into the last three holes, hole 16 is one that is loud and proud. Depending on the wind, it will surely make you second guess your disc choice. Do you lay up or are you going for it? What about in a STRONG headwind? What disc do you throw? Wow, hole 16 is quite the hole.

This course is also super family and dog friendly with bathrooms and water fountains. This is one of those courses where you can bring your family members that don’t play to walk this well-maintained course with you.

When you’re done, you can swing up to the Dynamic Disc Northwest Arkansas store and replace discs you’ve lost or buy a new disc golf cart. This shop has all the latest and greatest discs and accessories for the game.

The front skid plate on the Silverado ZR2’s chin is a high-mounted steel front bumper that contributes to the truck’s 31.8-degree approach angle, which Chevy says is more than you’ll get on any other Silverado including those with the Z71 Off-Road package or Trail Boss grades with their standard 2.0-inch lifted suspension. The ZR2 sits a half-inch taller than the Trail Boss, and it’s
only offered as a crew cab body style and either the short or standard length cargo boxes.
