Female Innovators in the Auto Industry
Female Innovators in the Auto Industry
March is Women’s History Month, and here at McLarty Daniel Chevrolet in Springdale, AR we’re celebrating women pioneers and inventors who transformed the automotive industry through their innovation and hard work, making it possible for later generations to enjoy the fruits of their genius. From completing the first road trip to making automobile interiors more sophisticated and luxurious, these women have inspired us and made our world a little safer and much better.
Bertha Benz (1849-1944)
German automotive pioneer Bertha Benz was the wife of German inventor Carl Benz, who created the first gasoline-powered car in 1886. Bertha is a pioneer in her own right, however, as she is the first person to embark on a long-distance “road trip.” Seeking to prove the reliability of her husband’s invention, in 1888, Bertha and her sons took an early prototype of Benz’s car and drove it a then-incredible 120 miles. This first-ever road trip took Bertha 12 hours to complete, traveling from Mannheim to Pforzheim, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. In her honor, the Bertha Benz Memorial Route is now a historic route you can travel in Baden-Württemberg, Germany.
Denise McCluggage (1927-2015)
Though there was a time when women were barred from auto racing, there have long been women looking to be the fastest thing on wheels. Pioneering race driver Denise McCluggage began to race professionally in the late 1950s, and eventually became the fastest American auto racing driver of any gender. Her trademark was a white helmet with pink dots, with her racing achievements including winning the grand touring category at Sebring in a Ferrari 250 GT in 1961, and a class win in the Monte Carlo Rally in 1964. She also participated in the Nürburgring 1000 km sports car race. After she ended her racing career in the late 1960s, McCluggage continued her pioneering ways by becoming a female automotive journalist at AutoWeek magazine.
Helene Rother (1908–1999)
A native of Leipzig, Germany, Helene Rother left her war-torn homeland in 1943 and eventually moved to Detroit, where she joined the team at General Motors. Soon after, she became the first woman to work as an automotive designer, specializing in interior upholstery, fabrics, lighting, and hardware. Rother eventually began her own female-led design studio and continued to gain success and recognition as a female pioneer in the industry. In addition to her important work making automobiles safer and more beautiful, she also designed furniture, jewelry, fashion accessories, and stained glass windows. She was posthumously inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame in 2020.
We are proud and honored to share these courageous women’s stories with you. What great accomplishments each woman achieved not only for the automotive industry but for women’s equality, and making our world a much better place. When you are ready to strike out after your own place in history, let us assist you in making that happen in the vehicle that is perfect for you. Come by McLarty Daniel Chevrolet in Springdale and test drive your future! Hope to see you soon!

To celebrate things slowly heading back to normal, we wanted to share some of our favorite Arkansas destinations that are perfect spots to enjoy nature or just get out and stretch your legs after a long hibernation indoors.
BEAVER LAKE
Rogers, AR
Just a hop, skip, and a jump from Springdale is wonderful Beaver Lake! Located in the Rogers area, Beaver Lake is 28,000 acres of clear water that is a favorite spot for thousands of water sports lovers, hikers, and fishermen. Beaver Lake is renowned for bass fishing and has even been a destination for many fishing tournaments.
HOT SPRINGS NATIONAL PARK
Garland County, AR
Nestled in the Ouachita Mountains and surrounded by hot springs where you can still soak in natural hot water, Hot Springs is a wonderful destination for family fun. The national park offers a diverse selection of attractions like the Gangster Museum of America and the Victorian Bath Houses along Bathhouse Row on Central Avenue. In the warmer months, visit Magic Springs Water and Theme Park where there is a variety of rides from a roller coaster to a grand wave pool. Or take your family aboard and experience the National Park Duck Tour or a Belle of Hot Springs Riverboat.
LOUISIANA PURCHASE STATE PARK
Brinkley, AR
If you’re ever in eastern Arkansas, make it a point to visit the Louisiana Purchase State Park. It is as if you stepped back in time during the initial steps of Arkansas taking form as part of the Louisiana Purchase. The state park preserves the initial point from which all surveys of property acquired through the Louisiana Purchase of 1803 originated. Though the point is now in the middle of a beautiful swamp, an elevated boardwalk lets visitors walk above the water through massive cypresses, leading to the granite monument marking the historical survey’s starting point.
Arkansas is full of thrilling, exciting, and educational places to visit. McLarty Daniel Chevrolet Springdale loves to brag about these destinations in the Natural State. We love Arkansas just as much as we love to provide quality customer service. When you are ready to purchase a new or used vehicle, look no further. Come by McLarty Daniel Chevrolet and test drive a new 2021 Chevy Camaro or one of the quality used vehicles we have available in our inventory. Either way, we are here! Happy Driving!
Treat your Vehicle to Some Spring TLC
Treat your Vehicle to Some Spring TLC
The weather is warmer, the skies sunnier and Spring is finally here, so hit the road Old Man Winter! It’s time for some TLC for your vehicle to help get you ready for the busy spring and summer driving season! Your vehicle needs regularly-scheduled maintenance and a bit of upkeep to keep it running right, and it always feels wonderful to hop in and drive a clean, pristine machine. For an idea on how to start, we’ve got you covered. McLarty Daniel Chevrolet in Springdale is happy to assist our customers and can offer some great tips for spring cleaning for your car!
HELLO SUNSHINE
First and foremost, let’s clear out the winter stuff like your extra pair of gloves, ice scraper, and tire chains. Get the sunshine in your ride by cleaning all the windows. To get the staleness out of the air vacuum the upholstery, and wipe down the interior of your ride with car cleaning wipes for a fresh feel. Then to revitalize the interior’s surface, wipe down the interior with a protectant to protect the vinyl or leather from UV rays. It’s always a great practice to keep some safety items like a flashlight with fresh batteries for emergencies, a tire pressure gauge, and — to help keep everyone safe until Covid-19 is beaten and done — a package of disposable face masks and a bottle of hand sanitizer
REGULAR MAINTENANCE
For a smooth-running vehicle, make sure that your vehicle’s fluid levels are at the optimal operating levels according to the recommendations in your owner’s manual. Along with routine oil changes, check your vehicle’s air filter to see if it needs to be replaced. Not only does a fresh air filter keep your vehicle breathing well, but it will also improve your fuel economy. While you’re under the hood checking fluid levels and filters, make sure to see if your vehicle has enough windshield wiper fluid, and clear out any dead leaves from under the hood.
TIRES, CHECK!
The pressure in your vehicle’s tires will have fluctuated due to outdoor temperature changes during the winter. While a few pounds of pressure one way or the other might not seem like a big deal, consider this: when you have an underinflated tire, your gas mileage goes down and the risk of having a flat tire goes up. If the tire is overinflated, you are also at risk of a dangerous blowout. That is why it’s good to have a tire gauge tucked away in the glove box. Usually, the recommended PSI (pounds per square inch) is between 30 to 35. Check your automotive manual for your vehicle’s recommended PSI.
These are just a few suggestions for spring cleaning your vehicle and begin your spring travels on the right foot. At McLarty Daniel Chevrolet in Springdale, our customers are our main priority. Let us assist you when the time comes for you to buy your next new vehicle. If your car is in need of maintenance or service, you can schedule a service maintenance appointment online.

Say Anything | 1976 Chevy Malibu
This 1989 flick is a classic rom-com, featuring John Cusak as a romantic underachiever who falls in love with a beautiful valedictorian over-achiever the summer before she goes off to college. In one of the most iconic scenes of the film, sure to set hearts a flutter, Cusack tries to win the heart of his crush with a boombox playing Peter Gabriel’s “In Your Eyes” held over his head. Meanwhile, every car lover was checking out the blue ’76 Chevy Malibu behind him.
American Graffiti | 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air
The 1973 classic American Graffiti, is George Lucas’ ode to his teenage years in the early 1960s in Southern California, complete with sock-hops, romantic drama, submarine races, drive-in burger joints, and illegal drag races. This Boomer Era film-gem was directed and co-written by Lucas just before he became a superstar director famous for the Star Wars trilogy. The movie concludes with the ultimate drag race between hot-rodder John Milner (Paul Le Mat) driving a ’32 Deuce Coupe vs. his challenger, Bob Falfa (Harrison Ford) who’s driving a suped-up 1955 Chevy Bel Air. Spoiler Alert! Falfa ends up crashing the beautiful machine, but the memory of this heartfelt and romantic film lives on.
The Twilight Saga | 1963 Chevy C-10
Ahhh, who can forget about this film trilogy about the super weird love triangle between a vampire, a fragile teen-aged girl, and a werewolf in the hit franchise, Twilight? While you may or may not like the franchise, Bowtie fans have got to love the classic 1963 Chevy C-10 that’s driven to school by angsty teenager Bella Swan, played by Kristen Stewart. The C-10 was the main full-size pickup truck for Chevrolet and GMC from 1965 until 1999.
Transformers | 1977 Chevy Camaro and 2009 Camaro
Can you call this movie a romantic sci-fi adventure? The 2007 smash hit Transformers was directed by Michael Bay, and stars Shia LaBeouf Sam Witwicky, a hapless hero who finds sci-fi adventure when he buys a clapped-out and rusty 1977 Chevy Camaro that turns out to be an alien robot in disguise. Also, starring Megan Fox as Witwicky’s love interest and running-from-explosions partner, the main co-star in the film is lovable Bumblebee, an Autobot that comes to the planet Earth in search of the powerful AllSpark. One of the funniest scenes in the film is when Bumblebee, after taking offense at being called a piece of crap, abruptly stops in the middle of the road, dumps out his passengers, and transforms himself into a sleek, yellow 2009 Chevrolet Camaro. The car has since become a film icon.
Your friends at McLarty Daniel Chevrolet in Bentonville hope you had a safe and happy Valentine’s Day. General Motors Going Carbon Neutral by 2040
General Motors Going Carbon Neutral by 2040
General Motors announced this past January its plans to become carbon-neutral by 2040, along with a plan to phase out all light-duty gas and diesel vehicles in favor of an all-electric lineup by 2035. To advance its zero-emission and all-electric-vehicle objective, GM is focusing on certain priorities to make this happen, including the continued development of its new next-generation Ultium battery and platform. While the news that GM plans to eliminate many of the gas- and diesel-powered light-duty vehicles is sure to be an adjustment, they’re off to a beautiful start toward a better and greener future.
RELIABLE ALTERNATIVE
GM is readying itself to change the infrastructure of fossil fuel usage and deliver a reliable alternative. The first step is to make electric vehicles efficient while giving the customer the same reliable powertrains they expect from quality GM vehicles. Priority one, therefore, is to develop a battery that charges fast, delivers power efficiently, and can cover vast distances. To have variety and options, GM plans to bring 30 new electric vehicles to market globally by 2025. To remedy the concern of having access to easy and convenient charge-up stations, GM has joined with EVgo to increase the size of the nation’s largest public fast-charging network. The overall objective is to add more than 2,700 new fast chargers in making them easily accessible by the end of 2025.
THE BODY ELECTRIC
For the zero-emission future, GM has developed the innovative Ultima battery. These “pouch style” batteries have a high content of nickel while minimizing the use of rarer cobalt, resulting in less hardware than typical cylindrical batteries. Energy storage and delivery options for the new batteries range from 50 to 200 kWh. Way to go, Science! The envisioned powertrain structure will consist of interchangeable drive units, electric motors, and a single-speed transmission. Off-road performance, you ask? Absolutely, all-wheel-drive propulsion combinations are included in the plan. The platform is designed to give optimal battery storage space along with a layout that will be interchangeable for all EVs no matter the shapes and sizes.
General Motors is taking bold and achievable steps toward a carbon-neutral future. As a result of such innovation, our environment will become a better, cleaner place for generations to come. We at McLarty Daniel Chevrolet in Bentonville are hyped to be part of this huge history-making endeavor. When you are ready to trade in your automobile for the vehicles of the future you can drive today, let us assist you with all your vehicle needs.

2021: Over 100 years of Chevy Trucks
2021: Over 100 years of Chevy Trucks
As we usher in another year, let’s get some perspective on how far Chevrolet has come with the evolution of the Chevy truck. While Chevrolet truck design has evolved each year, over the past 100 years, Chevy has always kept the customer and their demands in mind. It is not about making the almighty dollar, but what Americans need for day-to-day driving and to assist Americans in making a living while letting them blow off some steam on the weekends too. Chevy trucks evolved to meet customers’ changing needs, and that means the power, technology, reliability, and capability of today’s Chevy Trucks are light years from where it all started. Let’s take a look at some of the most iconic Chevy trucks in the past 100 years.
1918 One-Ton
The first production truck from Chevrolet, the 1918 One-Ton was delivered to customers as a rolling chassis featuring an open cab and equipped with an inline 3.6-liter four-cylinder engine that produced 36 horsepower. The open frame allowed customers to install the body that fit their unique needs, including box trucks, open trucks, food trucks, dump trucks and more. Even back then, Chevrolet had a firm grasp of the concept of customization.
1938 Half-Ton
Chevy’s 1938 Half-Ton was the first truck designed in Chevy’s newly formed Art and Colour department, later known as Design Center. The year also saw the designs of cars and trucks go their own path as designers realized the need for trucks to have their own identity and a personality that truly reflected “truck style.” As a result, the Half-Ton had a stylish vertical grille and swept fenders that were completely different from Chevy passenger cars built the same year. It came standard with a 3.5-liter I-6 and cranking up to 78 horsepower.
1967 C/K10 Series
Dubbed the “Action Line,” this second generation of the C/K series was designed with a squared-off body with a more integrated hood and fender. This beauty was came standard with the 4.7-liter Inline Six, and offered a wide choice of six-cylinder and big-block V8 engines.
1973 C30 One-Ton Dually
Introduced in 1973, the C/K “square-body” design trucks from Chevrolet were a game-changer that drastically upgraded the styling of Chevy Trucks. Also new for 1973 was the first crew cab dual-rear-wheel — or “duallie” — heavy duty truck: the 1973 C30 One-Ton Duallie, Many consider it to be the first modern heavy-duty truck, with other manufacturers quickly rolling out imitators. The C30 was the first Chevy truck to feature a crew cab that can seat up to six. This godfather of heavy-duty trucks came standard with a 155 horsepower 5.7-liter V8 engine.
1999 Silverado 1500
Though the “Silverado” name had been used as the top-shelf trim for the 1973-1987 Chevrolet “Square Body” design trucks, 1999 was another big step in the evolution of Chevy pickups in that Chevy began using the “Silverado” name to refer to all Chevy trucks brand-wide to help kick off the introduction of their more aerodynamic GMT800 platform. In addition to a load of other innovations, the 1999 Silverado was powered by the new Vortex V8 engine, sub planting the iconic Chevy Small Block V8 as Chevrolet’s main V8 powerplant.
2021 Silverado 2500
The latest in Chevy innovation is the 2021 Chevy Silverado 2500HD, which takes the historical fibers of heavy-duty and adds a sleek and contemporary sense of design, along with technology to do more in this state-of-the-art truck. You have the choice of two heavy-duty powertrain options, backed by innovative towing technologies and the large and functional Durabed. There are five unique trim levels for you to choose from.
What an amazing 103 years of Chevy tough and ready trucks. If these trucks are spurring your desire for a new Chevy truck that can meet your work needs and match your weekend fun, then stop at McLarty Daniel Chevrolet in Springdale. Come test drive the 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500, 2500HD or 3500HD and experience the pure quality of Chevrolet.
New Year’s Resolutions For Your Vehicle
New Year’s Resolutions For Your Vehicle
It’s a new year and time for a clean slate, including for your vehicle. We don’t think of how much we rely on our vehicles, how vital for our livelihood they are and how our car is part of our daily lives, like a family member. So let us all show some respect to our hard-working vehicles in 2021 so they can continue to be reliable for us. Here are some important annual car maintenance tasks to consider for 2021, to help you keep your vehicle running strong. After all: a well-maintained vehicle is a happy vehicle!
BE CLUTTER FREE
It’s time to grab a trash bag and get to it by throwing away old receipts you think you will not need, empty soda cans, just empty out your entire vehicle. A good thorough wipe down with antiseptic wipes will also be good since the pandemic is still going strong.
PUT TOGETHER AN EMERGENCY KIT
As 2020 showed us, emergencies can happen when you least expect it. Given that, you might want to consider having an auto emergency kit, which is always handy in case you have an emergency on the road. At a minimum, your road kit should contain an ice scraper, an extra pair of gloves, a hat, and a small blanket in a bag or weatherproof box. These items are especially important to have during the winter season, so if you have an accident or car trouble, you can stay warm while help is on the way. Also, another thing you’ll want in your emergency kit is a flashlight with fresh batteries, because doesn’t car trouble ALWAYS happen in the dark for some reason?
MAINTAIN A HEALTHY RIDE
Monthly auto maintenance to your vehicle can do wonders to the longevity of your vehicle. Everything depends on the health of your vehicle’s engine, from getting to work to picking up the kids. It will last longer, perform better, and achieve a better fuel economy if you do a routine check-up and oil changes. Make sure your vehicle’s engine is properly lubricated and all fluid levels are at operating levels. A very good rule to go by is to check the engine’s oil every other time you get gas or schedule a monthly reminder on your mobile device. It’s better to be safe than sorry.
TIRE MAINTENANCE
Don’t be caught in the situation of a tire blow out! One way you can stave off a scary tire situation on the road is by regularly checking the tire pressure, especially in cold weather conditions. Tires tend to deflate a bit in cold weather, and tires that are under-pressure can wear unevenly or even fail, so it’s always good to have a tire-pressure gauge tucked away in the glove box of your vehicle. They’re cheap and come in both analog or easy-read digital versions. The recommended PSI (pounds per square inch) is between 30 to 35 for most tires, but check your owner’s manual. Also, check the tread depth of each tire to see if your tires should be replaced. For a precision check-up, you can purchase a tread depth indicator at your local tire or auto store. There’s always the penny trick. Insert the top part of Lincoln’s head (head down) in between the tire treads. If you can see Lincoln’s entire head, it’s time to replace that tire. If you don’t see Abe’s forehead then the
tires are good for travel.
We at McLarty Daniel Chevrolet hope these New Year’s resolutions help you and your vehicle so this year can be about new adventures and being safe. If your vehicle needs service and maintenance, or if you’re ready to trade up, come see your friends at McLarty Daniel Chevrolet in Springdale. Let us put your mind at ease and assist you with your automotive needs. See you soon!
