The updated 2020 Chevrolet Silverado is coming this fall to McLarty Daniel Chevrolet, your Northwest Arkansas Silverado City thanks to one of the biggest selections of Chevy Silverado models in the region! While that’s exciting for a lot of reasons, fans of trucks that work for a living are sure to be focused on one big addition: the all-new 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel, which will be an available option in the 2020 Silverado 1500.

Now Chevrolet has given Silverado fans another big reason to cheer, with the news that the 3.0-liter Duramax achieves an incredible 33 miles per gallon on the highway, and an equally-impressive 23 mpg in the city.

In addition to that fuel-sipping fuel economy, the 3.0-liter Duramax inline six cylinder is also a torquey little devil, delivering 277 horsepower and a whopping 460 lb.-ft. of low-end torque, for maximum towing capacity of up to 9,300 pounds and maximum payload of up to 1,870 pounds.

“We designed the all-new Silverado and the all-new 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel to deliver both performance and efficiency,” said Tim Herrick, Silverado executive chief engineer. “The engine utilizes state-of-the-art technologies to optimize every drop of fuel, and takes advantage of architectural changes to make Silverado larger, lighter and more aerodynamic than before. The resulting combination offers all of the performance, refinement and capability customers want in a full-size truck, with highway fuel efficiency you would expect from a family sedan.”

The 3.0-liter Duramax turbodiesel inline six cylinder is the first diesel offered in a half-ton Chevrolet since 1997, and the brand’s first-ever inline-six diesel in a light duty pickup. The engine is a modern marvel, featuring durability-friendly components like a forged steel crankshaft, blended silicon/aluminum pistons for increased heat and friction resistance, a micro-balanced low end for reduced vibration and noise, and a lightweight aluminum block with durable iron cylinder liners.

“We set out to offer light duty truck customers the best of diesel – outstanding fuel economy, great horsepower and responsive torque – plus unexpected levels of refinement,” said Nicola Menarini, director for diesel truck engine program execution. “We leveraged our global diesel expertise to make sure the all-new 3.0L Duramax turbo-diesel engine offers the impressive performance and durability our truck customers demand.”

The 3.0L Duramax turbodiesel will be available on 2020 Silverado LT, RST, LTZ and High Country trims as a $2,495 option the fall. Over four-and-a-half tons of towing muscle and over 30 miles per gallon from a half-ton truck used to be a pipe dream, but Chevrolet engineering made it a reality!
