Five Child Safety Seat Tips to help keep kids secure on the road

From radar-based cruise control to the latest in automatic braking technology, Chevrolet is always on the cutting edge of the relentless push to make the cars of tomorrow safer for you, your family, pedestrians and other drivers on the road. Modern Chevy vehicles like the 2021 Tahoe, Blazer and Silverado 1500 are bristling with technologies that would have seen like the stuff of science fiction even ten years ago, and it seems like our favorite brand is always dropping some new safety feature.

Even with all that safety, when it comes to kids, the first line of protection is the simplest: a properly-fitted car seat or booster seat. In addition to buying a safe vehicle, making sure your child’s car seat is properly installed and properly fitted is the surest way to make sure they make it home from every journey safe and sound.

Seen below, check out McLarty Daniel Chevrolet’s tips for making sure your children are properly buckled into their car seats, helping the safety seat work to its best no matter what happens. See, here at McLarty Daniel Chevrolet of Springdale, we’re parents too, so we’re all about keeping the little ones safe. And if you need a car, truck or SUV with the latest in safety tech to surround you and your family in a cocoon of protection on road, come see us today at McLarty Daniel Chevy, or check out our full selection of safe and beautiful Chevrolet and vehicles online right now.

1) CHILDREN SHOULD FACE THE REAR AS LONG AS POSSIBLE

Though everybody likes to see where the road is taking us in our new Chevy today, young children are always safest when they are in a rear-facing car seat. Most collisions occur from the front, and with the seat facing the rear, with the seat and padding able to better absorb the impact, there’s much less chance of your child suffering life-threatening head, neck and spine injuries in the event of a frontal crash. As such, children should stay rear-facing in the car seat for as long as their height will allow, and at least until they’re two years old.

2) UTILIZE YOUR VEHICLE’S BUILD IN ANCHOR POINT AND TETHER STRAP

A secure car seat is a car seat with limited movement in the event of a crash, and in addition to using the lap belt to secure the seat, you should definitely utilize your vehicle’s built in safety seat anchor point and tether strap. Since 2000, all vehicles sold in North America have included at least three solidly-mounted safety seat anchor points in the rear of the vehicle. Often hidden under easy to remove plastic covers, than anchor points are used with a quick-release tether strap to keep the safety seat from whipping violently in a collision, which can injure a child’s brain, neck or muscles. A tether strap is included in the purchase of every new car, and new ones can be purchased separately if you don’t have yours. Check online or in your owner’s manual for the location of the hidden anchor points in your vehicle

3) ARE YOU SNUG

Though young children love to complain about the straps of their car seat being too snug, but snug safety seat straps are absolutely crucial to making sure your child is safe on the road. First and foremost should be getting the correct tension on the harness straps that go over the child’s shoulders. So how snug is snug enough? With the child buckled in their safety seat, use your fingers to pinch the strap where it sits over the child’s shoulder. If there’s enough slack to pinch the strap between your fingers, they should be tighten a bit.

4) CLIP IT!

While the small plastic clip that secures the shoulder straps of a safety seat across the child’s chest doesn’t look like it would offer much protection, proper use, alignment and placement of the clip is crucial to keeping your child safe in a crash. Always take care when positioning the clip, making sure the straps aren’t twisted, bunched or folded as they pass through the clip. In addition, the clip should be positioned in line with your child’s armpits. NEVER allow the clip to be positioned near the child’s throat, or over the abdomen, which could harm your child’s internal organs in the event of a crash.

5) WHICH SLOT?

If you take the padded over off your child’s car seat, you’ll see a series of slots on each side, which the chest straps go through, allowing you to adjust the straps upward as your child grows. Making sure you’re using the correct slots for your child is another crucial, often-overlooked facet of making sure the car seat is ready to protect your child in the event of a crash. The first step is to place your child in the safety seat. If your child is still using a rear-facing seat, you should use the slots that are located at or just below the level of your child’s shoulders while sitting in the seat. If your child has graduated to a forward-facing seat, you should utilize the slots located at or just above your child’s shoulders.

Keeping you and your family safe on the road is Job One for Chevrolet, and it’s Job One for everybody here at McLarty Daniel Chevrolet. By following these easy tips, you can help make sure your young ones are as safe as they can be on the road while giving yourself peace of mind. Five songs that mention Chevrolet for your next road trip

We’re into the fall now, and with coronavirus still hanging around and making our lives more difficult and our entertainment options more limited, we’re all looking for safe, fun things to do. Chevy has been encouraging folks to “See the USA in your Chevrolet” since the 1950s, and in recent months, we’ve rediscovered the joy of taking long drives just for the heck of it, either letting the road take us where it wants to or finding a far-flung destination and just pointing the Chevy Bowtie on the front of our vehicle toward it.

Nothing makes a great drive even better than a great playlist! Chevy has been around long enough that Chevrolet vehicles have been getting mentioned in great songs for over a century, so there’s plenty to choose from. Seen below, check out seven of our favorite songs that mention Chevrolet! And if you’re ready to find a new vehicle that will put a song in YOUR heart, come see us at McLarty Daniel Chevy in Springdale, for the area’s best deals on the full range of Chevy cars, trucks and SUVs!

“Mud on the Tires”

Brad Paisley

A lot of country songs talk about the freedom that owning a gassed-up, great-looking Chevy can and Brad Paisley 2003 Number One Hit “Mud on the Tires” is all about that feeling of knowing the road is open, the truck is full of gas, and you’ve got nowhere to go but somewhere with a person you love. With lyrics like: “I’ve got some big news / The bank finally came through / And I’m holdin’ the keys to a brand new Chevrolet…” how could we NOT love it?

“Crocodile Rock”

Elton John

Since the 1970s, Elton John has been on a roll, blasting out one infectious, dance-ready earworm of a song after another. One of his most exuberant tunes is the legendary, 1973 hit “Crocodile Rock.” Utilizing a 1950s do-wop sound and John’s wild piano playing to pay homage to the rock and roll of the artist’s youth as a lad back in England, the song is full of references to American car culture, including “an old gold Chevy and a place of my own.”

“Chevy Van”

Sammy Johns

While the “Van Culture” of the early 1970s has faded quite a bit from its shag carpet and heart-shaped window highs, there was a day when millions of Americans loved nothing more than hitting the road in a tricked out van that offered a plush spot in the back to do a little canoodling. Sammy John’s 1973 hit about a night of passion in the back of his custom Chevy Van rung the van-culture craze cash register to the tune of a Number Five high on the Billboard Hot 100 along with certified Platinum status, selling over a million copies.

“Night Moves”

Bob Seger

While the eternal argument over which musician best captures the spirit of America is probably gonna rage forever, one of our favorites when talking about this great country is Bob Seger, whose infinitely-singable hits are custom made for long, leisurely drives when you want to bask a bit in nostalgia. Of Seger’s hits, none captures that sense of desire for times past like his 1976 tune “Night Moves.” The song is all about a man who grew up in the middle 1960s, looking back on the great times of his youth, and thanks to lyrics recalling frolics in “the backseat of my ’60 Chevy,” it’s a masterpiece of ennui that might just get you a bit misty-eyed.

Exploring Chevrolet’s Infotainment System

“409”

The Beach Boys

There are songs about cars, and then there is The Beach Boys 1962 hit “409,” which might be the ultimate example of the genre. Talking not just about a legendary Chevy car, but also a legendard Chevy ENGINE — the fearsome, W-head 409 cubic inch big block that was installed in some Chevy Impala SS models between 1960 and 1964 — the song is an homage to the horsepower wars that were then kicking off on the streets of America, along with one of the greatest Chevy muscle cars of all time.

These five songs that mention Chevrolet capture the spirit of adventure and the thrill of the open road. Whether you’re cruising down the highway or just dreaming about your next road trip, they are sure to enhance your journey, bringing a bit of that Chevy charm to every mile. So turn up the volume, hit play and let the good times roll!

Chevrolet debuts upgraded 2021 Silverado HD, with a host of updates and improvements

The 2020 model year was huge for Chevy, marking significant upgrades to the current-generation Chevy Silverado 1500 that premiered in 2019, and the debut of the totally redesigned Silverado HD. For 2021, Chevy is taking a great truck and making it even better, with the announcement of a slew of upgrades, updates and improvements to the 2021 Chevy Silverado HD, including increased maximum towing capacity, better trailering technology and more!

We’ve sold a lot of Silverado HD trucks here at McLarty Daniel Chevy, so let’s dive into how the 2021 Chevy Silverado HD will make your day easier and safer than ever at work or play!

Increased Towing Capability

No heavy-duty truck puts in more work than the Silverado HD, and for 2021, Chevy has found a way to squeeze even more power from the platform, upping the 2021 Chevy Silverado HD’s maximum towing capacity to 36,000 pounds — an increase of 500 pounds — on 3500 HD Work Truck, Regular Cab, dual-rear-wheel, two-wheel-drive models equipped with the 6.6L Duramax diesel and 10-speed Allison transmission with the Max Tow Package

Upgraded Trailering Technology

From trailer sway to the dangers posed by other drivers, one of the most dangerous things you’ll ever do with your truck is towing. Towing is also one of the top reasons owners buy a Silverado HD truck. Given those two factors, Chevy engineers are always working hard to make towing safer for our customers. In the 2021 Chevy Silverado HD, Chevrolet put on their thinking caps and came up with even more work-proven technology to help keep you safe and inspire confidence when it’s time to hitch up and get along down the highway with a trailer in tow.

All-new on the 2021 Silverado HD, that includes:

  • Class-leading available 15 camera views and eight cameras, with switchable feeds sent to the full-color in-dash touchscreen, to make keeping an eye on your trailer and load simple and easy
  • Trailer-length Indicator: When the turn signal is activated, a feed pops up on the center-dash touchscreen showing that side of your trailer, along with a red overlay twice as long as your trailer, helping you better judge when it’s safe to make a lane-change while driving in traffic.
  • Jack-knife Alert: When maneuvering trailers around tight corners, there always exists the possibility of a “jack-knife” situation where the rear bumper contacts the trailer tongue, potentially damaging your truck, trailer or both. The 2021 Chevy Silverado HD’s Jack-Knife Alert uses technology to track the position of your truck and trailer, issuing audible and visual alerts before contact is made.
  • Cargo Bed View: Keeping an eye on your load is easier than ever with the new ability to zoom in on specific items like tied owns and ratchet straps. Towing a gooseneck trailer with a hitch in the bed? Use cargo bed view to zoom in on the ball while you’re backing up to hitch on, for picture perfect hitch-ups every time with no damage to your truck or trailer.

The 2021 Silverado HD began production in September and will be arriving soon at McLarty Daniel Chevrolet of Springdale! Want to be one of the first in our area to own the hardest-working, best-looking heavy duty truck in America? Stop in today and talk to one of our friendly finance professionals to get pre-approved! Can’t wait? Check out our great selection of 2020 Chevy Silverado HD trucks at our website right now!

Chevrolet debuts 2021 Tahoe Police Pursuit Vehicle

Since 1997, when Chevrolet produced the first Chevy Tahoe Pursuit-Rated Package, law enforcement agencies all over America the world have come to rely on the Tahoe for many of the same reasons families do: great looks, terrific handling, rugged dependability, unmatched cargo room and unmatched performance.

Recently, Chevy took the wraps off the next Tahoe that will hit the beat alongside officers all across the country: the 2021 Chevy Tahoe Police Pursuit Vehicle (PPV). Loaded with features and conveniences developed in thousands of conversations with real-life officers and compiled by Chevy’s in-house Law Enforcement Product Council, the 2021 Chevy Tahoe PPV promises to be the best Police Tahoe ever when it debuts early next year.

“Tahoe is the most aspirational vehicle in the law enforcement industry,” said Ed Peper, U.S. vice president, GM Fleet. “By listening to the needs of officers from around the country, we have built the best Tahoe ever.”

Looking to provide departments with a perfect blend of money-saving fuel economy and pursuit-ready power, the 2021 Tahoe PPV will be powered by Chevy’s rock-solid and reliable 5.3-liter V8, backed by a high-performance 10-speed automatic. To help the engine better survive the rigors of police life, it was treated to several innovative tricks, including the use of high-performance rocker covers from the ZL1 Camaro’s LT4 engine, which improve crankcase ventilation at high RPMs whole improving the engine’s ability to handle high-G turns without oil starvation in the engine’s internals. Engine oil and transmission fluid are also cooled by dedicated, heavy-duty fluid coolers, to help keep everything running smoothly even under extreme conditions.

To help keep officers safe during high-speed jaunts no matter what the weather, Chevy worked with their partner Bridgestone Tires to develop special rubber for the 2021 Tahoe PPV: Firestone Firehawk Pursuit tires, mounted to 20-inch steel wheels. Tested at well over 120 miles per hour at race tracks and the Chevrolet proving grounds, the tires improved the Tahoe PPV’s stopping distance by a full 11 feet when going from 60 mph to zero on dry surfaces.

Pursuit-Ready Performance Enhancements

Other pursuit-ready performance enhancements of the 2021 Tahoe PPV include:

  • Tuned monotube dampers, coil springs and stabilizer bars for less body roll during high-speed turns.
  • Lowering the ride height by three inches when compared to the civilian model 2021 Tahoe, for easier loading and unloading of handcuffed suspects, better aerodynamics, and a lower center of gravity.
  • A heavy-duty braking system with high-performance Brembo six-piston aluminum monoblock calipers on massive 16-inch rotors.
  • Heavy-duty limited slip rear differential.
  • 140 mph speedometer

In addition, the electrical system of the 2021 Tahoe PPV has been optimized for easy lights/sirens/gear upfitting by departments, with a standard blunt-cut wiring harness with 31 wire circuits to the cockpit, 56 wire circuits to the cargo area and 25 shared circuits to connect equipment without removing major panels, seats or other components. In addition the Tahoe PPV includes steering-wheel-mounted buttons that can be easily configured to perform a variety of functions, from activating lights and sirens to activating an external speaker for addressing pedestrians.

To avoid excessive and fuel-hungry engine idling, the 2021 Tahoe PPV features a 760-amp auxiliary battery that allows video systems, radios, data terminals, emergency lighting and more to operate for an extended amount of time without the engine running. Keeping the system charged is a new high-output alternator is 47 percent more powerful than the 2020 model

When it comes time to take stock of the year, nobody helps that along better than Fleetwood Mac. This one is a favorite, with Stevie Nicks’ sultry voice lending the perfect note of wistful reflection to a tune about where we’ve been.

“The Four Seasons: Autumn”

Antonio Vivaldi

Want to take your fall color drive upscale with the perfect classical music? You can’t go wrong with this beautiful and moving composition by Vivaldi. While not as famous as Vivaldi’s “Spring,” “Autumn” is a masterpiece, perfectly capturing the image of tumbling leaves and blustery fall days in music.

“Leaves That Are Green”

Simon and Garfunkel

Another musical act that seems perfect for chilly autumn days with a cup of spiced cider is Simon and Garfunkel, and there’s no better song of theirs for a nice fall drive than “Leaves That Are Green.” Equal parts upbeat and poignant, with heartfelt lines about the passage of time and love lost, it might have you reaching for a tissue.

“Free Fallin'”

Tom Petty

Okay, maybe this one is a stretch for a “Fall Playlist,” but you’re gonna need a palate cleanser to bring your mood back up after “Leaves That Are Green.” “Free Fallin'” by the late singer-songwriter Tom Petty might be the perfect song for that thanks to a positive, toe-tapping message about American dreamers that’s sure to get you smiling and thinking back.

Gone Till November

Wyclef Jean

The third single off Wyclef Jean’s solo album “The Carnival,” the emotional and moving “Gone Till November” is a powerful song about the past, the choices we make and being separated from those we love at a time when we need them most. Though we hope that isn’t the case for you, it’s still a great song for an autumn drive, especially when you’re in the mood to consider old times.

“Autumn in New York”

Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong

One of the most beautiful songs ever by two of the biggest musical giants to ever sing and play, Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong’s “Autumn in New York” is a true masterpiece of tone and style, not to mention one of the best songs about experiencing Autumn in the big city ever produced.

“Boys of Summer”

Don Henley

Another Summer is behind us, and there’s no better song to celebrate the coming of fall than Don Henley’s “Boys of Summer.” Referring to the end of baseball season, the song goes a lot deeper than jock-rock with its heartfelt images of tanned skin, Ray Ban Wayfarer sunglasses and a love affair that seems to be passing with the summer heat.
