Expectations About the 2022 Chevy Camaro

After much silence and anticipation, General Motors has finally confirmed that there will be a 2022 Chevy Camaro. Woot Woot!! So with that fact established, now comes the many speculations as to what diehard Camaro fans and Chevy enthusiasts should expect about their beloved sports coupe. Let’s take a closer look at what GM is up to with the 2022 Chevy Camaro.

EXTERIOR EXPECTATIONS

One thing is for certain, the Camaro will be available in two body styles, two-door coupe and two-door soft-top convertible. The 2022 Camaro is expected to be available in similar trims as its previous models and there are quite a few to choose from too. For the two-door coupe, the 1LS is the basic trim, then you have the 1LT, 2LT, 3LT, LT1, 1SS, 2SS, and ZL1. The SS is Chevy’s SuperSport (SS) package and the ZL1 is the topmost trim. The convertible body style will be available in all of these aforementioned trims except the 1LS.

HORSEPOWER OPTIONS

Word around the campfire is that the 2022 Camaro will probably be equipped with the same powertrains as the 2021 model and share the same four engine variants. The first one is a turbocharged 2.0-liter Inline 4 engine. The second variant is a 3.6-liter V6 dual overhead cam engine. The last two engines are V8s. The 6.2-liter V8 overhead valve engine makes 339.3 horsepower and 455 lb.-ft. of torque. And finally, a supercharged 6.2-liter LT4 V8 overhead valve engine that cranks out 485 horsepower and an impressive 650 lb.-ft. of torque which is equipped in the Chevy Camaro SS package. All engines will come with a 6-speed manual transmission as standard, while the V8s will utilize active rev-matching technology.

BEYOND 2022

We expect that the sixth-generation Camaro will live on for the 2022 model year and that an all-new, future Chevy Camaro will launch sometime in the 2023 calendar year with all-new interior, next-generation infotainment system and more GM Active Safety features and technologies. However, that vehicle might not be called Camaro and could be electric.

The wait is finally over! The new 2022 Chevy Camaro is expected to go into production in June of this year and hitting showroom floors later in the fall. But if you have the need for speed now, come by McLarty Daniel Chevrolet in Springdale to take a test drive in the 2021 Camaro and experience the sharp performance and style of America’s favorite sports coupe.
