Five songs that mention Chevrolet for your next road trip

We’re into the fall now, and with coronavirus still hanging around and making our lives more difficult and our entertainment options more limited, we’re all looking for safe, fun things to do. Chevy has been encouraging folks to “See the USA in your Chevrolet” since the 1950s, and in recent months, we’ve rediscovered the joy of taking long drives just for the heck of it, either letting the road take us where it wants to or finding a far-flung destination and just pointing the Chevy Bowtie on the front of our vehicle toward it.

Nothing makes a great drive even better than a great playlist! Chevy has been around long enough that Chevrolet vehicles have been getting mentioned in great songs for over a century, so there’s plenty to choose from. Seen below, check out seven of our favorite songs that mention Chevrolet! And if you’re ready to find a new vehicle that will put a song in YOUR heart, come see us at McLarty Daniel Chevy in Springdale, for the area’s best deals on the full range of Chevy cars, trucks and SUVs!

“Mud on the Tires”

Brad Paisley

A lot of country songs talk about the freedom that owning a gassed-up, great-looking Chevy can and Brad Paisley 2003 Number One Hit “Mud on the Tires” is all about that feeling of knowing the road is open, the truck is full of gas, and you’ve got nowhere to go but somewhere with a person you love. With lyrics like: “I’ve got some big news / The bank finally came through / And I’m holdin’ the keys to a brand new Chevrolet…” how could we NOT love it?

“Crocodile Rock”

Elton John

Since the 1970s, Elton John has been on a roll, blasting out one infectious, dance-ready earworm of a song after another. One of his most exuberant tunes is the legendary, 1973 hit “Crocodile Rock.” Utilizing a 1950s do-wop sound and John’s wild piano playing to pay homage to the rock and roll of the artist’s youth as a lad back in England, the song is full of references to American car culture, including “an old gold Chevy and a place of my own.”

“Chevy Van”

Sammy Johns

While the “Van Culture” of the early 1970s has faded quite a bit from its shag carpet and heart-shaped window highs, there was a day when millions of Americans loved nothing more than hitting the road in a tricked out van that offered a plush spot in the back to do a little canoodling. Sammy John’s 1973 hit about a night of passion in the back of his custom Chevy Van rung the van-culture craze cash register to the tune of a Number Five high on the Billboard Hot 100 along with certified Platinum status, selling over a million copies.

“Night Moves”

Bob Seger

While the eternal argument over which musician best captures the spirit of America is probably gonna rage forever, one of our favorites when talking about this great country is Bob Seger, whose infinitely-singable hits are custom made for long, leisurely drives when you want to bask a bit in nostalgia. Of Seger’s hits, none captures that sense of desire for times past like his 1976 tune “Night Moves.” The song is all about a man who grew up in the middle 1960s, looking back on the great times of his youth, and thanks to lyrics recalling frolics in “the backseat of my ’60 Chevy,” it’s a masterpiece of ennui that might just get you a bit misty-eyed.

“409”

The Beach Boys

There are songs about cars, and then there is The Beach Boys 1962 hit “409,” which might be the ultimate example of the genre. Talking not just about a legendary Chevy car, but also a legendard Chevy ENGINE — the fearsome, W-head 409 cubic inch big block that was installed in some Chevy Impala SS models between 1960 and 1964 — the song is an homage to the horsepower wars that were then kicking off on the streets of America, along with one of the greatest Chevy muscle cars of all time.

These five songs that mention Chevrolet capture the spirit of adventure and the thrill of the open road. Whether you’re cruising down the highway or just dreaming about your next road trip, they are sure to enhance your journey, bringing a bit of that Chevy charm to every mile. So turn up the volume, hit play and let the good times roll!
