2021 Silverado will get innovative Multi-Flex tailgate, plus more trailering tech and power
It’s good to work hard, but it’s better to work smart, utilizing everything in your toolbox to make the workday quicker, easier and safer than you can just by sheer brute strength alone. Chevy Silverado has always been the truck that works harder and smart than the competition. Recently, Chevy announced a few new innovations that will help owners of the all-new 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500 get more out of their workday with less effort.
First up is the announcement of the 2021 Silverado 1500’s all-new Multi-Flex Tailgate, which Chevrolet says will be available in early 2021 on all new 2021 Silverado 1500 models. While other trucks fool around with features you’ll never use, the Multi-Flex Tailgate will be a game-changer at work or play, with six unique functions that allow more flexibility when loading or accessing cargo. That includes a set of heavy-duty, fold-down steps integrated right into the tailgate that deploy in seconds, with a weight capacity of up to 375 pounds.
Other features of the available Multi-Flex Tailgate include load stops of differing heights to help you haul a range of cargo more securely and more. Combined with the 2021 Silverado’s bed, which features available LED task lighting, a 120-volt outlet that can power most corded tools and 12 fixed tie-downs, the Multi-Flex Tailgate makes any 2021 Silverado 1500 a work-ready machine.
In addition to the Multi-Flex Tailgate, the 2021 Chevy Silverado will kick the trailering utility way up though advanced technology and old-fashioned muscle.
The 2.7-liter turbo engine is already a winner on efficiency, but in the 2021 Chevy Silverado 1500, it becomes a trailering and hauling king as well, increasing the maximum towing capacity of a 2.7-liter-equipped Silverado to 9,600 pounds while increasing max payload to 2,280 pounds. 2021 Silverado 1500 models with the 3.0-liter Duramax turbo-diesel engine, meanwhile, up their maximum towing capacity to 9,500 pounds in two-wheel drive models, while the price of the Duramax option drops a full $1,500.
Other big news for the 2021 Silverado 1500 is improved trailering technology, including a class-leading 15 unique camera views to help you keep an eye on your load. Also new: a trailer length indicator that helps you judge when it’s safe to change lanes, an all-new Jack Knife Alert that detects when a potential jack-knife is imminent, a rear side-view enhancement and more.
